Caring for Braids

24 Sep

After one week of rocking my box braids I am afraid I am not going to be able to wear them for 2 months (sad face). My hair-line is already super frizzy as Lola is multi-textured and my hair-line is where she is super fine and thin. So far I have been trying to lay the hair down without looking like Chilli circa the Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls era, actually pretty Chilli much from the 90’s to early 2000’s. Anyway for as long as I have the box braids I am going to use the following products to keep them looking fab.

1. African Pride Braid Sheen- Keep away the itch while keeping in the mositure with African Pride Braid Sheen. It soothes the itch while conditioning and moisturizing your hair. It will also give your braids extra shine. I am going to use this product twice a day, in the morning and in the evening before bed.

2. Organic Root Stimulator Herbal Cleanse Dry Shampoo-This dry shampoo (the consistency is like a gel) cleanses and refreshes braids, locks, and twists etc..without water. I received a sample of this product in a curlBOX   and plan to use it during the first two weeks of wearing braids. I will then switch to my UR Curly shampoo followed up with a leave in conditioner and seal in the moisture. I will be do a review of this product.

3. Maxi Professional Tea Tree Oil- I will use this to seal in the moisture, soothe my scalp and help with scalp dryness. The product is a combination of many oils: tea tree, jojoba oil, sesame oil, and vitamin E etc..

4. Ampro Pro Styl Olive Oil Gel- To lay down the frizzy hairs and keep the braids looking a new and fresh as possible.

5. Tropic Isle Living Jamaican Black Castor Oil- I will be using JBCO on my hair to seal in moisture concentrating on my hair line where the hair is fine and thin.

I had micros for 3 weeks. I thought I was going to be able to hang in there with them as well for at least 6 weeks…my curly hair was not having it. I even used gel, tied with scarf at night oiled my scalp, poo/condi, etc. to really take care of my hair…nothing worked to keep my hair laid down. For some reason this go round (2nd BC since ’07) I love playin in my tightly curled hair. Not like in ’07-08. Now I know what to use and how to maintain it. Hope your experience is better than mine. Now I’m doing weekly low manipulation styles; last week two strand twists under my bob wig; this week coils NO WIG!!!

Thanks and good luck with your continued journey. I think I may be able to get two more weeks out of these braids but I am going to defintely look into other protective styles.
