Product Spotlight: Qhemet Biologics

2 Oct

Hi Beauties,

I know it’s been too long and so much has been going on. For one I moved to DC (more on that in a later post) !  the Also, Lola has grown significantly and while I really am going to try to blog more often I just wanted to come through and let everyone know that my love for Qhemet Biologics is real. Like really real, like, “It’s realer than Real Deal Hoyfield!” I have so far used the following pictured products and let me tell each one of them is A-mah-zing!

CTDG-2 BRBC-2 AOHC-2 AHTB-2

Cocoa Tree Detangling: First off this stuff smells so yummy.  I have used this product as both a detangler and a leave-in with great results. If you decide to use it as a leave-in make sure you aren’t heavy-handed because a little goes a long way as the texture is a bit thick.

Burdock Root Cream: I really love this product. I tend to be a bit heavy-handed since the product feels so light and it still doesn’t leave a residue and my hair didn’t feel dry. This particular product was intended for use by people with fine strands while the Amla & Olive Heavy Cream is for people with dry, coarse hair. I found that Lola responds slightly better to this product than the Amla and when I say slightly better I mean my hair feels less weighed down with this product.

Amla & Olive Heavy Cream: I like this product too however, it does leave my hair feeling a bit weighed down. I will revisit this product in the colder months to see if my opinion of it changes. For those of you with thicker  hair strands this may be a better option than the Burdock Cream.

Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter (try saying Aethiopika five times fast): This stuff is thick and has a  citrus -ish scent . While I am not much of a fan of the scent I really this product.  I use this butter to seal my ends and to retwist during the week. It is very thick so definitely don’t be heavy-handed with this product. Also, the product can feel a bit grainy but it’s not something that would deter me from buying again.

Have you used Qhemet Biologics products? What did you think?

Product Review: SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Condtioner (New Product)

15 Feb

Per Shea Moisture: This lightweight, daily conditioner restores moisture and smoothes dry hair cuticles. No more knots, snarls, and tangles. Tames frizz as it P1020984define and enhances natural curl.

Key Ingredients: Coconut Oil: Hydrates and protects hair while reducing breakage. Silk Protein: Smoothes hair for a soft, silky feel. Neem Oil: Controls frizz while adding brilliant shine.

Other Ingredients: Deionized Water, Cocos Nucifera(Coconut)Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Sorbitol Esters, Mangifera Indica (Mango), Seed Butter, Simmondsia chinensis seed (Jojoba) Oil,  Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oilm Cetyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B-5) Proprietary Essential Oil Blend, Aloe Barbadenis Leaf Extract, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Extract, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Melia Azadirachta (Nee) Seed Oil, Rosemary Extract, Caprylyl glycol.

Directions:  After shampooing, apply generously and comb through for even distribution. Leave in for 3 minutes. Rinse. Style as desired.

ScentNow I don’t think I have ever smelled anything that was hibiscus scented however, I don’t really think this product smells like coconut so I gonna say it smells like hibiscus, either way the scent is pleasant and not too overwhelming.

Availability: This product is only available at select Targets (click here for store listings). I purchased this product from the Target in Colombia Heights in Washington DC. I made a special trip to this Target because according to the list no Target in Massachusetts is carrying the new SheaMoisture products.  This weekend I am at the Target in South Bay (Dorchester, MA) this past weekend to scoop up items from the Parabal Gurung for Target collection and what do I spy in the hair care section…this product and the coconut and hibiscus co-wash conditioning cleanser. So if you are in Massachusetts and want to try these products now you know of at least one Target which carries them.

Price: Unfortunately, I bought this a while back and can’t remember the exact price $9.99 or $11.99.

Don’t Believe Hype?  Believe it kind of…

Final Thoughts:  I hadn’t used any products from the SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus line so I was excited to try this product. Overall, I think it’s a really good product, again the smell is pleasant, the consistency is thick which I like since hair is pretty dense. My hair felt moisturized after I’d rinsed the product out. Would I buy the product again? I doubt it. Again this is a really good conditioner however, it a rinse out conditioner, it is not a deep conditioner nor is it a  leave- in.  Now, I am a hard-core product junkie and am always up for buying products however, I can’t justify spending $9.99 -$11.99 on a conditioner that I apply to my hair for 3 minutes and then rinse out. If I was able to use this product as leave in spite of what the label/directions say I would buy it again. However, the product has silk protein in it and I am afraid it may eventually result in dry, brittle hair.

Will you be trying SheaMoisture’s Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner?

What do you want me to review?

7 Feb

Hi Beauties,

If you didn’t already know I live in Massachusetts and we are going to have a wicked stawm this weekend. Since I haven’t done a product review in a while and I’ll pretty much be snowed in for a greater part of the weekend. I have decided to play in products so that I can do some product reviews. However, the question is what products should I review, and that is where you ladies come in. I would like for you to tell me what products you would like to see reviewed.

Evolve Deep Stimulating Brush (Regular sized brush)-

My thoughts: First,  let me say there were variations in the boxes some people received Soy Organics Ant-Breakage Moisturizer instead of  the Twist & Lock Gel. There were also variations in the Oyin products with some people receiving either the Honey Hemp or the Juice and Berries instead of  the Hair Dew. What is listed above is what I received in my curlBOX. Now on to my opinion, I have to admit this is not my favorite box and I do understand that every box can’t be amazing. But to me most of the boxes have been pretty good and maybe my expectations have become a bit too high. When I opened this box and saw the contents I didn’t get that desire to rip open these products and get to doing my hair. I don’t know about you but whenever I get a product I am excited about all I want to do is try it out. That being said, I will try everything in the box and perhaps once I have used the products I will have a greater appreciation of January’s box. I am looking really  forward to using the Oyin Hair Dew and to giving the Mizani True Texture leave-in a try. February marks the first anniversary of curlBOX, so I know the contents of the box will be fabulous! If you are interested in joining curlBOX the list opens January 19th at 3pm.

Final Thoughts: I like the contents of the October box. I have been wanting to try henna but hadn’t gotten around to purchasing any so it was pretty great that it was in this month’s box. I figure a girl can never have too many products for twists/braids so I will definitely be using the African Pride. The Dr. Miracle conditioner I think we received a sample in an earlier curlBOX I don’t think Lola liked the product but I can’t quite remember so I will give it another shot. I am on a no-buy and won’t be using the behuetifil discount so if you would like my discount code leave your email in the comment section and I will email you the code. Also, if there is ever any product you are just dying for a review of let me know I am happy to try it out and post a review. I haven’t opened a thing from the September or the October curlBOX and I believe I am going back in braids either next week or the following week so I maybe I will do a giveaway of a few products from my boxes. I would love to know what you think about the October curlBOX so please do tell.

Final Thoughts: I purchased a sample of this product along with a sample of the Test Whip (review here). So you guys already know that I had nothing but great things to say about the Test Whip and the CurlyCue Renew is another great product! The consistency of the product is creamy but not too thick. The smell is so yummy! It smells just like cake mix. I applied the product and sat under the hair dryer for 45 minutes. When I rinsed the product out I was left with super soft, incredibly moisturized hair. My hair felt so good that I was annoyed I hadn’t purchased the full size.

Ingredients: Water (Aqua) , Olea Europaea Fruit Oil (Olive) , Capric Caprylic Triglycerides , PEG 75 Lanolin , Behentrimonium Methosulfate , Cetearyl Alcohol , Ceteareth 20 , Cetyl Alcohol , Dimethicone , Phenyl Trimethicone , Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter , Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter , Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut) , Retinyl Palmitate , Tocopherol , Ascorbic Acid , Biotin , Linoleic Acid , Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) , Fragrance , Imidazolidinyl Urea , Methylparaben , Propylparaben , Hydrolyzed Silk , CI 19140 (FD&C Yellow 5)

Scent: I am not too keen on the scent of this product, it does smells like mango, although not a mango I’d like to eat.

Price: Varies depending on where you purchase but somewhere between $3.99$6.99.

Don’t Believe the Hype? Believe it.

Final Thoughts: I received this product in the May curlBOX and I have to admit I rolled my eyes at the sight of it and thought, “Come Son!”  I’d tried this product back when I was relaxed and did not like it one bit my hair it left my hair feeling greasy and weighed down. In spite of this jar toting itself as, “New and Improved” I shelved it. Fast forward to July and I am rifling through my product shelf looking for a pudding or a butter to twist my hair with. I instantly see this product and although I am a bit weary I decide to give it a shot, reminding myself that  relaxed hair isn’t natural hair. I opened the jar and instantly noticed while the scent was familiar the consistency of the product seemed lighter. I used it over my trusty Curl Junkie’s Smoothing Assurance Lotion and lo and behold butter soft twists! I was shocked my hair felt moisturized but not greasy and the definition of my twist out was EVERYTHANG! I have continued to use this throughout the summer and for its price and efficiency, will definitely keep a jar or two on the shelf. Please note- while I have used this product for twists with great results I have never used it daily as a moisturizer or as a thermal protecting treatment perhaps when the winter comes I may explore its other uses.

Product Review: U R Curly Soya Shampoo

22 Aug

u-r-curly-curly-soya-shampooPer U R Curly: Our Soya Shampoo is free of alcohol, parabens and sulfates. It is made with soy protein and enriched with Abyssinian Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Echinacea and Aloe. Whether you wear your hair long or short, the friendly ingredients found within our weightless U R Curly Soya Shampoo will clean and moisturize your hair leaving it smooth and soft to the touch. Our unique formula is designed to soothe your scalp, reducing breakage, nourish damaged hair and help promote hair growth– helping you reach your hair goals.

Ingredients: Artesian Water, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Cocoyl Taurate, PEG 150 Distearate, Polyquat 10, Menthol, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Polysorbate 20, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Fragrance, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinine. Our Soya Shampoo is free of alcohol, parabens and sulfates.  It is made with soy protein and enriched with Abyssinian Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Echinacea and Aloe.

Directions: Apply to wet hair and massage gently into a lather. Leave on hair for 2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. For best results, follow with our U R Curly Quinoa Conditioner.

Scent: This product has a menthol/tea tree oil scent. I personally like menthol scented products they clear the sinuses.

Availability: On the ground. This product is available at Walmart, of course not in any Walmart in my neighborhood or state  but here is a link to stores that do carry it

 Price:  $8.99

Don’t Believe the Hype? Believe it.

Final Thoughts: This product came in the July CurlKit and I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about trying this shampoo.  So far in my natural hair journey I have not had any success with sulfate free shampoos, the couple that I have tried  left Lola a dry tangled mess. But I decided to try it anyway and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by This shampoo  is definitely the best sulfate free shampoo I have tried thus far, Lola was clean and moisturized. The consistency of the product is a bit thick and tacky, so it feels more like a gel. It lathers nicely cleansing the hair without it making it feel stripped. Did I mention it makes your scalp tingle? Who doesn’t love a product that tingles? The smell is a bit strong but again I like menthol scents so it didn’t really bother me. While I do like the product I am not sure if I would repurchase in part because it is not available in my area and I kind of prefer to co-wash. For those of you who use shampoo and have access to the product I would say definitely say give it a try.

Product Review: Curly Kinks Test Whip

9 Aug

 TwistWhip__55642_1349829216_1280_1280

Ingredients: Water, Burdock Root, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Hydroxypropyl Methycellulose, Cupucau Butter, Illipe Butter, Vegetable Glycerin, Vegetable Emulsifier, Panthenol, Apricot (Prunus Armeniaca) Kernel Oil,  Brassica oleracea italica (Broccoli) Seed Oil, Agave Nectar, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Fragrance, Citric Acid

Scent:  The scent of this product is light, slightly nutty, overall it is  very pleasant.

Availability: Online at CurlyKinks.com

Price: Variety of sizes and price points: 2oz. (sample size) $5.00, 8oz. $15.00, 12oz. $19.00, and 16oz. for $23.00.

Don’t Believe the Hype? Believe It!

Final Thoughts:  First off can I just say how much I love that this company offers its products in  a variety of sizes at different prices. I bought the 2oz. sample size  and after using the product was really disappointed that I hadn’t bought a larger sized container. I really, really like this product. The consistency is light and it boasts 97% natural ingredients. I used it over Curl Junkies Smoothing Lotion for a twist out on Lola (the twist out I’m rocking in the Natural Hair and Neons post).*  My hair had great definition. I loved that it  was soft and moisturized and not greasy or weighed down. The product is only available online and it did take  a few weeks to receive my order after I had placed it.  I think the longer shipping time may have been mostly due to the product being new and in high demand, either way it was definitely worth the wait. I am definitely going to purchase a larger size of the product very soon.

*Since I had only purchased the 2oz. sample size I wasn’t able to twist my all of my hair with the product. I used Elasta QP Mango Butter when I ran out. While both products gave me good definition, I felt the test whip let my hair a bit softer and more mositurized.
